"Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:13-14

Bishop Major L. Hairston was born on May 30, 1935 to the late C.P. and Mary Gravely Hairston in Cascade, VA. He is blessed to have six brothers and one sister. He was educated in the Pittsylvania County Public School System. He also studied at the Virginia Seminary and College and the Virginia Institute of Bible Study.

The Anointed pastor is happily married to the lovely Shirley Hairston who faithfully works by his side. They are the blessed parents of two sons; Ricky and Major, Jr. They were also blessed with a daughter, Deborah, now deceased. They are proud grandparents of four; Ricky, Brittany, Chelsie & Jawon.

At a very early age, Bishop Hairston felt the hand of the Lord in his life. He loved attending church with his mother & loved to hear good preaching. Sermons of the late Rev. C. L. Franklin were among his favorites. He joined the Bibleway Worldwide Church and was a devoted servant of God for nineteen years.

He worked in many areas of the church such as the Brotherhood Dept, Deacon Board and Sunday School Superintendent. He also conducted eight o'clock prayer each Sunday morning and conducted the radio broadcast. Bishop Hairston was called to the ministry in 1971. Truly his ministry flourished during the years to follow. At that time he felt that his calling was a ministry of assisting and evangelism; yet as he reflects, he realized that God had greater things in store.

Bishop & Mother Hairston endured many trials and tribulations such as the loss of their five year old daughter, his suffering with arthritis and subsequent disability. Yet through it all-they made it. They had truly learned to lean & depend on Jesus.

In September 1985, Bishop Hairston was sent to Winston Salem, NC to start a church, He remained there until February 1986. Many obstacles faced this great leader during those five months. In the midst of difficulties, the Lord began to speak and heralded the pastor in a new direction. Bishop & Mother Hairston, along with members of their congregation returned to Danville and birthed New Hope Apostolic Church. They returned to let God take control------and He did.

The New Hope Apostolic Church began in a small building (a former YMCA) in March 1986 with few members. The Lord truly blessed the church and Bishop Hairston began to see clearly the "great things" God had in store for New Hope.

Through the dedication of this great visionary leader, New Hope moved to the present location. "To God Be The Glory For The things He Has Done." Because Bishop Hairston is a man after God's own heart and diligently seeks Him-New Hope has been blessed.

picture of pastor praying for member Bishop Hairston is known for his warm sense of humor and simplistic messages that reach people from all walks of life. He is a prayer warrior who stands firmly on the Word of God and preaches without compromise. He humbly serves God and his community. He has often stated that " He has a deep desire to do the Lord's will".

According to Pastor Hairston, the Church is the Lord's outstretched hand to a dying world; saying "Come unto me all that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest". Bishop Hairston's sincere desire is to minister to the whole man; body, soul and spirit.

It is an honor to present this dedicated, humble man of God-who has the people of God at heart-The Founder & Pastor, Bishop M. L. Hairston.
